Adoption Policies
Night Song Refuge's first priority is to our animals.
With that thought in mind, we have developed some policies which will be followed by any potential adopter. We hope
anyone who feels drawn to one of our animals will understand everything done is in the best interest of the animals.
In today's times, many areas are passing ordinances, laws, new legislation, etc against wolfdogs and other dog breeds.
It is paramount to us that whoever adopts one of our animals does so with a clear understanding of the needs of their particular
animal as well as the risks of owning one. The risks is not from the animal itself but from society.
These animals are misunderstood and stereotyped just as their brother the wolf has been for centuries.
There will be some basic guidelines for owning a wolfdog such
as 8 to 10 feet fences, dig out wire, secure containment, etc. Depending on the animal, some of these requirements could
be altered. For example: we have two adoptable three legged wolfdogs so as long as the fence is secure to the ground,
no holes, they will not need dig out wire.
Additional things required, a completed application and a home
visit. Yes sometimes it does seem like you are adopting a child instead of a companion. However please keep in
mind these animals have all been abandoned at least once by people. For the benefit of them and you, it is extremely
important that we learn as much as we can about you so we can assist you in matching the perfect woofer for you and your home.
An adoption fee of $200 will be charged for each wolfdog.
This fee is to cover vet expenses only. We are not making money off of our animals but rather trying to recoup some
of the expenses we have put into these animals. Each animal will be altered and updated on vaccinations prior to
placements (non negotiable). Health certificates will be given for any animal travelling out of state.
Transportation costs will be incurred by the adopters.
NSR in most cases would prefer the adopters come to the refuge to pick up their animals. This way introductions can
be done on the animals home turf reducing any stress for the animal. In the cases of adopters being approved for an
animal but not being sure which one they want this will give them the opportunity for them to visit several before making
any definite decisions. We will do our best to allow for some camping or maybe some primitive accomodations when available
for anyone who wishes/needs to spend the night. This will not always be an option but feel free to ask. Under
no circumstances will NSR fly an animal to an adopter. In cases where an adopter lives more than a day's drive away,
NSR will work with the adopter to work out some reasonable mode of transportation for their animal.
