Night Song Refuge was the brain child of Catherine and Andrew Beall.  Night Song Refuge was founded in 2004.  The Bealls received a large inheritance which they used to build the present facility.

Presently the push is to continue developing Night Song Refuge.  NSR already has a respected reputation among many colleagues nationwide.  NSR volunteers are working on developing an educational component.   Educational programs will be offered on wolves, wolfdogs, coyotes, New Guinea Singing Dogs, other wild canids and responsible pet ownership.

Night Song Refuge is presently working toward our USDA license which will enable us to do more for the community to educate those who are interested in learning more about these wonderful creatures.

Night Song Refuge is run completely by volunteers.  No salaries are paid.  Night Song is constantly looking for Volunteers who are interested in working with and for our animals.  If you would be interested in sharing your talents (whatever they may be) please call us at 828-693-0010.  Thanks.

Catherine Beall

Catherine Beall graduated from the University Of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science.  She has worked initially in a lactation research facility for the University of Tennessee.  She also devoted approximately 5 years to rehabilitating injured, sick, and orphaned wildlife.  She volunteered approximately 5 years working with the animal department at the WNC Nature Center in Asheville, NC.  In her spare time, she has volunteered many hours serving on boards for several different non profit agencies.  The last 14 years have been devoted to rescuing canines.  Since 2004, she has devoted her time to saving wolfdogs, New Guinea Singing Dogs, Coyotes and other wild canids.

However her most favorite “jobs” have been being a wife to Andrew, mother to Noah, Larry, Grace and Raven...future Mother-in-law to Nicole.  She also is the adopted mother to several teenage friends of Noahs.  She looks forward to being a grandmother sometime next year!!!

Our Direct Care Volunteers

Arthur Johns (AJ) has been with Night Song Refuge since the spring of 2007.  He brings years of construction, plumbing and general handyman experience to the refuge.  He is a whiz at renovations.  AJ also has a knack with the canines which makes him a valuable part of the Night Song Refuge Pack.

Calina Cunningham just recently joined the Night Song Refuge family.  She and her daughters moved here to work with our animals from Texas.  She is a former member of the military.  She also has experience working with animals at local animal shelter in TX.  She impressed both Cathy and AJ when they went down to pick up two from her shelter.  Calina managed to win the good graces of Sydney.  Not an easy task for someone working with a very frightened wolfdog in a shelter.  Welcome to the pack Calina!
